What kind of glass is this?
The glass we work is borosilicate glass. It is more resistant to thermal shock and sturdier than soda lime glass, traditionally called soft glass. Borosilicate is typically worked on a torch and soft glass is typically worked in a larger setting with a team and furnace.
Is it dishwasher and microwave safe glass?
Yes, both dishwasher and microwave safe.
How is your glass worked?
Our glass is hot worked exclusively by hand with our table top torches, typically called flameworking or lampworking. We also employ some work on the glass once its cooled, aptly called coldworking.
By flameworking our glass we are able to create more detailed work, but it is harder to work larger. Soft glass work done with a furnace can create larger pieces easier, but has a harder time making precise, smaller, detailed work.
Are all products in sets exactly the same?
While we strive for uniformity, all our products are handmade so there will be some variation between products. Our measuring cups heights and handles will vary some, but still precisely measure the same. Our standalone cups can say 8 oz but that is measured at a comfortable distance from the brim so as to be functional. One 8 oz standalone cup won’t be the same height or dimensions as another 8 oz cup. We will strive for our tightest tolerances with our products sold in sets.
